Another US-Bangla plane crash survivor returns home

Sheikh Rashed Rubayet, another survivor of the US-Bangla Airlines Flight BS211 that crashed in Nepal last week, has returned to Dhaka from Kathmandu. The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying him landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 3pm on Saturday. From there, an ambulance carrying Rubayet, who suffered chest, head and leg injuries, started for Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 3:30p. He was admitted to DMCH’s burn and surgery unit after it arrived there around 4pm. US-Bangla Airlines would bear all of his medical expenses, said the airliner’s General Manager (Marketing and Public Relations) Kamrul Islam. Before him, four other injured survivors were brought back to Dhaka and admitted to DMCH’s burn unit. Almun Nahar Annie, Mehedi Hasan and his wife Saiyada Kamrunnahar Shwarna had arrived on Friday, a day before Shahreen Ahmed. Two other victims – Kabir Hossain and Shaheen Bepari – were also scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Sunday, reports UNB. Emrana Kabir Hashi, one of the critically injured passengers of the crashed aircraft, would be taken to India for better treatment at the soonest convenient time, according to her family members. Dr Rezwanul Haque Shaon, another severely burnt passenger, was taken to Singapore for better treatment on Wednesday. Most of these victims suffered burns along with other physical injuries.

DMCH forms medical board

DMCH authorities on Saturday also formed a 13-member medical board to treat the injured passengers of the ill-fated Flight BS21, which crashed at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport on March 12 and left 49 people, including 26 Bangladeshis, dead. Abul Kalam Azad, director general of Directorate General of Health Services, told UNB that the board, led by burn unit Coordinator Dr Samanta Lal Sen, will provide all kinds of treatment to the injured passengers. The US-Bangla Airlines plane, which flew from Dhaka to Kathmandu, was carrying 67 passengers and four crewmembers. Of them, 36 were from Bangladesh, 33 from Nepal and one each from China and the Maldives.
