Residents of Uttara Sector 13 have organised a massive human chain protesting the illegal acquisition of an open space adjacent to a women park, which has been spontaneously used by the people living in the area.
The residents have long been demanding establishment of a children park in that space. Moreover, there is a huge crisis of water supply in the area and repeated appeals of installing a deep tube-well in the areas had gone in vain due to the scarcity of space.
But, Rajuk authorities, paying no heed to the demands of the locals, has recently started process for allocating commercial plots in that space a size of 260’×60’.
Left with no other option, the local people organised the massive human chain protesting such an irresponsible move of a government agency. The programme was attended by the people from all quarters.
The speakers termed this move as a shameful initiative and expressed hope that the Rajuk would use the space for constructing a children park and installing a deep tubewell.
