The Power System Master Plan (PSMP)-2016 plans to generate 70% of the power from gas and coal and the remaining from regional connectivity, renewable and nuclear energy.
“If it is possible to ensure efficient management of power, we could able to save up to 10,000MW,” said prime minister’s Energy Affairs Adviser Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury told a consultation meeting on the PSMP-2016 yesterday.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is assisting Bangladesh in formulating an extensive energy and power development plan up to the year 2041, covering energy balance, power balance and tariff strategies following the country’s aspiration to become a high-income country.
At the meeting, JICA presented the PSMP-2016 before the stakeholders of the sector.
Towfiq said necessary technology would be required for the efficient management of power and “we would move to accumulate such technology based on the research.”
He said the PSMP-2016 would be finalised after consultation with private sector and academics.
JICA formulated the PSMP-2016 on the basis of future necessity of power, fuel, transmission of generated power and efficient use, mode of renewable energy production and financing by 2041 for the sector.
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Abul Kalam Azad emphasised conducting thorough research to prepare the master plan.
