Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources formed a “coal club” yesterday.
The aim of the club is to share knowledge and experience between public and private sector operators of coal-based power plants, as well to promote the principles of coal experts and use of coal for power generation, according to Power Division officials.
Mohammad Hossain, director general of Power Cell, under Power Division, said the coal club would be independent of any political, ideological or religious interests.
“Eligible members for the club are important public and private entrepreneurs, persons involved with coal-related business, and coal experts or professionals at home and abroad. Any other category of membership may be determined by the ministry from time to time,” he said.
An ad hoc committee was formed with Md Abduhu Ruhullah, chairperson of Bangladesh Power Development Board, as convener and the DG of Power Cell as member secretary.
However, an executive committee consisting of 19 members will be formed for the club.
