India to transmit power through Bangladesh

Dhaka has decided to allow India to transmit power from Assam to North Western part of the country using three routs including Boropukuria of Dinajpur or Jamalpur.

The capacity of the transmission line would be 6,000mw.

The transmission line in Bangladesh land may be 100km if it is built in Boropukuria and 200km if in Jamalpur, according to a report submitted by the joint technical team formed to construct transmission line between Bangladesh and India.

The joint steering committee approved the report in its seventh meeting of Bangladesh-India power sector cooperation held at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the capital on Thursday afternoon.

Several members of the joint technical committee have confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the transmission line.

A sub station will be built in the each routes, said the report.

A joint technical committee will be formed for feasibility study in constucting the transmission line from Rangia of Assam through Boropukuria (Dinajpur) or Jamalpur to North Western part.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within six months.

Two other possible routes of the transmission line are -- from Asam’s Bonga through Baropukuria (Dinajpur) or Jamalpu to Bihar’s Punia and from Asam’s Shilchar via Meghna Ghat-Bheramara to West Bengal.

Detail regarding the third route was not mentioned in the report.

India have to provide 500-1000mw power to Bangladesh per day if the transmition line is constructed.
