The government has released the names of 10 recipients of this year’s Independence Award (Swadhinata Padak) for their outstanding and meritorious achievements at the national level.
The Cabinet Division issued a press release in this regard on Friday.
Three people will receive the award in the Independence and Liberation War category: Kazi Abdus Sattar, freedom fighter Flight Sergeant Md Fazlul Haque (posthumous) and freedom fighter Shaheed Abu Naeem Najib Uddin Khan (posthumous).
Dr Mubarak Ahmad Khan will receive the award in the Science and Technology category. Mohammad Rafiquzzaman will get it in the Literature and Firoza Khatun in the Sports category.
Dr Harishankar Das is receiving the award in the Medical category.
Oronno Chiran, freedom fighter Dr Md Obaidullah Baki and SM Abraham Lincoln are receiving the award in the Social Services category.
Each awardee will be given an 18-carat gold medal weighing 50 grams, Tk3 lakh and a certificate.
The Independence Award is the highest state award in the country. Since 1977, the government has given the award every year on the occasion of Independence Day on March 26.
