Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will flag off the much-awaited 102-kilometre Chittagong-Cox's Bazar railway line on Saturday, bridging the country’s tourist hub with the port city through rail connectivity.

She will unveil the new rail route (from Dohazari in Chittagong to Cox’s Bazar) for train movement at a ceremony at the newly constructed Cox’s Bazar Railway Station.

In the future, the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar railway line will be connected to the Matarbari deep sea port.

The 102-km rail route has nine stations: Satkania, Lohagara, Chokoria, Dulahazra, Eidgao, Ramu, Cox's Bazar Sadar, Ukhiya and Gumdum.

Cox's Bazar Railway Station has been constructed in the shape of an oyster and will offer modern facilities.

These stations have fully computer-based interlocking signal systems and a fully digitalized telecommunications network.

On April 3, 2011, Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation for the construction of Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway line, a priority project of her government.
