Tamim Chowdhury was killed during a drive at the militant den in Narayanganj on August 27. The DNA sample taken from his body has been matched to that of his father, Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury, who is currently residing in Canada.

Masudur Rahman, the deputy commissioner of media and publication at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
The Dhaka terror attack was the first of its kind in Bangladesh, with 20 hostages including 17 foreigners killed when armed assailants attacked the Holey Artisan Bakery in the diplomatic quarter of Gulshan. Two police officials also died in the attack.
According to international militant outfit IS, Tamim Chowdhury was the former head of Military and Covert Operations of the Soldiers of Khilafah in Bengal, and was known as Abu Dujanah al-Bengali.

However, Bangladesh police's CTTC unit, presently investigating the Dhaka attack, mentions Tamim as one of the top leaders of the NEW Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
