Zia said: "As soon as Shohagh was stabbed, I moved to take him down but got stabbed as well.
"He passed through the gates and that is when the other members of the APBn (Armed Police Battalion) and Ansars moved to intercept him. They also fired a few rounds to neutralise him."
The gunshots had created panic among the people in the airport, but a public announcement (PA) brought the situation under control.
Airport officials said that no flights were disrupted because of this incident.
The two other injured are- Ishtiaq, a member of the APBn and Ashiq, a police constable.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-1) Commanding Officer Lt Col Tuhin Md Masud told the Dhaka Tribune they are conducting a shadow investigation about the incident.
Regarding the confusion surrounding Shihab, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit has also opened an investigation. Shihab, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. Afterwards, he is scheduled to be interrogated by CTTC officials, according to a concerned source of CTTC.The injured were rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where Sohagh Ali, 32, succumbed to his injuries, Kanchan Banerjee, in-charge of Ansar outpost of the airport, told the Dhaka Tribune.
"The incident took place around 7:10pm at gate 4 on the second floor of the international departure terminal," says Maj Gen Mizanur Rahman Khan, director General of Ansar.
The attacker, who identified himself as Shihab, is in police custody now, confirms Ruhul Amin Sagar, assistant commissioner of Uttara Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Airport Zone).
"We are sceptical about his identity though," he added.
"We are questioning him to figure out what prompted the incident at the airport," he added.
Sources say that during interrogation, Shihab appears to be incoherent and spewing gibberish.
APBn Additional Superintendent of Police Tanjina Akhter told the Dhaka Tribune that they suspect the attacker might either be a drug addict or mentally ill.
