A Dhaka court yesterday ordered the deputy commissioner of Jessore to exhume the body of Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin Kona, daughter-in-law of former Awami League Lawmaker Khan Tipu Sultan, for a fresh postmortem.
Dhaka Chief MetropolitanMagistrate Bikash Kumar Saha passed the order responding to a petition filed by Shamarukh’s father Nurul Islam, also the complainant.
The court also ordered the Jessore DC to appoint an executive magistrate for the exhumation and form a three-member committee including a civil surgeon from Jessore to conduct the autopsy.
On November 23, Shamarukh Mahjabin’s family members and relatives rejected the postmortem report prepared by the Dhaka Medical College Forensic Department and alleged the report had been doctored.
The postmortem, prepared by DMC Assistant Professor Sohel Mahmud, suggested that the death was a case of suicide.
On November 20, a Dhaka court sent Humayun Sultan Shadab, son of the Jessore ex-MP, to jail in connection with a case filed for killing his doctor wife.
After the completion of Humayun’s three-day remand, the investigation officer of the case made a request to keep him confined for the sake of proper investigation.
On November 14, Humayun was arrested for allegedly murdering his 24-year-old wife Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin Kona.
On November 16, Dhanmondi Police Station Sub-Inspector Kazi Shariful Islam, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced Humayun before the court and sought a 10-day police remand.
Meanwhile, the High Court granted anticipatory bail to Tipu Sultan and his wife Jesmin Ara for four weeks in the case on November 16.
Kona’s father Nurul Islam, an assistant PDB engineer in Jessore, filed the murder case against Humayun alleging that her daughter was murdered by her husband and in-laws.
