Police yesterday recovered the body of a worker named Alauddin Shikdar, 25, from a closet inside a house in the capital’s Lalbagh area.
Police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the death, but detained Jubayer Ahmed Sumon, 25, a cousin of the deceased.
The body was recovered around 9am from the house of Alauddin’s auntin Duri Anguri Lane of the area.
Kamruzzaman, SI of Lalbagh police station, said: “Sumon was arrested for his suspected involvement with the killing. The deceased has a wire tangled up with his neck. It seemed that he might have been killed at least one day ago.”
His father Hossain Shikdar said: “Sumon called my son and asked him to come to the house.” However, he also could not readily say why his son was killed.
Azgar Ali, another SI of the police station, said: “Sumon is an addict. A case was filed against him before for torturing his wife.”
Kamruzzaman also said: “Sumon suspected that her wife had an affair with his cousin Alauddin.”
Later, Sumon went to his in-laws and beat up his wife and since then he remained missing, Azgar went on.
Meanwhile, police recovered another body in the capital’s Mohammadpur area in the morning.
The body of Khadiza Akhter, 17, is a daughter of rickshaw-puller Md Moslem Uddin, was recovered around 10:30am from the third floor of a house in Block C, Road 4 in the Dhaka Uddyan area in Mohammadpur.
Bulbul Ahmed, an SI of the Mohammadpur police station, said: “She had been living at the house with a man named Shuvo whom she used to introduce as her husband. There are several injury marks on her body that was covered with a blanket when it was recovered.”
Khadiza’s father Moslem told the Dhaka Tribune: “Shuvo went to Dubai with the help of some brokers and returned on October 21. My daughter has been missing since October 29.”
A general diary was filed after Khadiza went missing.
