Hearing of Limon’s revision plea deferred again

Update : 29 Sep 2014, 07:31 PM

A Jhalakathi court yesterday again adjourned the hearing on a revision petition filed by Limon’s mother Henoara Begum challenging the dismissal of the case against six RAB personnel accused of maiming her son, upon a prosecution plea.

This is the 10th time the hearing has been deferred, now until November 20.

The case was on the cause-list of the court yesterday but the date was deferred as Golam Rasul Mannan, the district prosecutor, sought time for preparedness. District and Sessions Judge SM Sulaiman granted the time petition.

Limon was shot in the leg in an alleged RAB shooting adjacent to his house at Jamaddarhat in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi on March 23, 2011, just about a fortnight before his HSC examination.

His mother Henoara Begum filed the case on April 10. However, the police on August 14, 2012 secretly filed the final report claiming that they had found no evidence against the RAB men. Henoara filed a “no confidence” petition against the report on August 30, 2012.

The Jhalakathi Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on February 13 last year rejected the plea and acquitted all the six RAB personnel. Limon’s mother then filed the revision petition on March 13, 2013.

On the other hand, withdrawal of charges against Limon in one of the two cases filed by RAB has also been delayed since the designated court does not have a judge to hear the appeal. A Jhalakathi court is set to hear the appeal today.

Upon a Home Ministry order of July 9 last year, a Jhalakathi court acquitted Limon from charges in the arms case on July 30 the same year.

Now studying law at Gono Bishwabidyalay in Savar, Limon has been exempted from appearing before the court. He is likely to attend a hearing on human rights in British Parliament on October 28, defence lawyer Akkas Sikder said.
