The prime accused in Moghbazar triple murder case has been killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Detective Branch (DB) of police at Mogbazar Wireless Gate area in the capital.
The deceased is Shah Alam Khondokar alias Kala Babu.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said: “DB police conducted a drive at Mogbazar Wireless Gate area to catch some other criminals around 4am on Monday.”
“Sensing the presence of police, a group of criminals opened fire at the law enforcers,” he said.
In retaliation, police fired back that triggered a “gunfight” which left two law enforcers and one of the criminals injured.
Meanwhile, DB police also arrested two criminals for the spot.
The DMP official said: “The injured criminal was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead around 4:30am.”
“After talking to the arrestees we came to know that he was Kala Babu, the prime accused in Moghbazar triple murder case,” he said.
Masudur Rahman said the injured DB officials were taken to Rajarbagh Police Hospital.
On August 28, armed assailants shot three people, including a woman, dead and left another critically injured at their residence in the capital’s Moghbazar.
