A total of 13 robbers including their ring leader formally surrendered to the home minister Thursday, a day after they were arrested in a special drive by RAB in the Sundarbans mangrove forest area.
They surrendered 20 foreign- and locally-made rifles and a huge cache of ammunition to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal during a programme at Barguna Circuit House around 11:30am.
The robbers who surrendered yesterday are its leader Md Alamgir Sheikh alias Sagar, Md Kamrul Fakir, Md Abdul Malek, Md Kader Sheikh, Md Hafizur Rahman Sheikh, Md Kabir Sarder, Md Delwar Sheikh, Md Hassan Sarder, Md Nanna Fakir, Md Touhidul Islam, Md Raju Sheikh, Md Liton Hawlader and Md Tariqul Gazi.
Most of them were arrested during a drive by RAB in the Sundarbans area on Wednesday.

Rapid Action Battalion 8 arranged the event where its Director General Benazir Ahmed, Barisal Divisional Commissioner Md Akram Hossain, Barguna Deputy Commissioner Bashirul Alam, Coast Guard Commander (south zone) Ekram Hossain and Barguna Superintendent of Police Bijoy Basak were also present among others.
In his speech, the home minister urged forest and sea robbers, and militants to leave the path of vengeance and terrorism, and return to normal life. “Refrain from such nasty activities or face consequences,” he warned.
RAB chief Benazir said that the people who finance these criminals would not be spared. “We will expose the godfathers. The masterminds will have to face the same consequence,” he said.

Meanwhile, RAB 6 arrested six other members of Sagar Bahini from Dakop area of Khulna around 11pm on Wednesday. They are Yahiya Morol, Oli Sarder, Md Julfiker Kabir, Debabrata Mondol, Shukumar Bauali and Delwar Sheikh.
At a press conference on Thursday noon, RAB 6 Commander Rafiqul Islam said that the six robbers were trying to regroup after the arrest of Sagar Bahini chief along with several other members.
