Key militant 'financier' held in Ashulia succumbs to injuries

Alleged New JMB money man Abdur Rahman, caught by RAB in a raid in Ashulia area, has succumbed to his injuries. Savar MP and Director of Enam Medical College Hospital Dr Enamur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune that the man undergoing treatment at the hospital's ICU had died around 9pm Saturday. Members of police's elite force Rapid Action Battalion arrested Abdur Rahman Saturday afternoon after he jumped off the fourth floor of a five-storey building at Bashundhara Tek Moholla in Ashulia's Baipail area. The elite force also recovered Tk30 lakh, a pistol, ammunition, five knives and a mobile jammer from the flat. Ruma was detained for questioning. RAB Media and Legal Win Director Mufti Mahmud Khan later told reporters that Abdur Rahman was the main financier behind all the recent subversive activities carried out by New JMB group. He was under surveillance for two years but could not be arrested as he used to change his den frequently. The raid at Hamir Mridha Shahin's house began around 3:30pm. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Abdur Rahman jumped off his flat cutting the grill and sustained injuries. He was later admitted to the ICU of Enam Medical College Hospital at Savar. Abdur Rahman used to stay in the flat with his wife Shahnaz Akter Ruma and their children. Ruma was detained for questioning. Meanwhile, RAB and police's SWAT and counter-terrorism units carried out three drives in Gazipur and Tangail where 11 militants including New JMB's Dhaka divisional operations commander Faridul Islam alias Akash alias Pravat were killed.
