The trial of Jasimuddin Rahmani, the chief of alleged Islamist militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team, and 30 others has begun on Monday morning.
Additional District and Session Judge of Barguna District Court Abu Shamim began the hearing under section 292/124-ka of Information and Communication Technology Act.
Mufti Jasim along with two others militants has been produced before the court at 10am.
28 of Jasim's followers now out of jail on bail
Earlier on August 12, 2013, Barguna district police arrested Mufti Jasimuddin Rahmani along with 30 of his followers from a house at South Khajurtola.
Detectives said Jasimuddin Rahmani, said to be a follower of slain US-born Yemeni origin Anwar Al-Awalaki, a ‘spiritual leader’ of Al-Qaeda in Arabian Peninsula, has been carrying out his activities in Bangladesh for the last 4-5 years.
Anwar Al-Awalaki was killed in Yemen in an American drone attack on September 30, 2011.
Jasim's followers allegedly slashed blogger Rajib Haider to death near his Palashnagar of Pallabi residence on February 15.
They also attempted to kill blogger Asif Mohiuddin but he luckily survived, police said.
Detained Mufti Jasimuddin Rahmani along with his two followers are now in Barguna jail.
28 other followers are now outside of jail on bail.
