Robber killed in Lakshmipur ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Lakshmipur. Nizam Hossain alias Nizam was killed in Bibir hut area under Ramgati upazila of early Saturday. He is the son of Abdus Salam of Noakhali district. ASP Khondokar Golam Shanewaz said: “Acting on a tip-off, we arrested Nizam from Dwip Boyarchar area on Friday night. His associates opened fire at us when we took him to Bibir hut area to recover arms.” In retaliation, police fired back that left Nizam dead on the spot, he claimed. Later, the body was sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Meanwhile, police recovered one LG, two rounds of cartridge and two knives from the spot. The ASP said Nizam was accused in four cases including murder, robbery and kidnapping.
