The two indigenous youths abducted by unidentified miscreants four days ago for $200,000 ransom have remained missing.
Sourav Deyya Chakma Tintin, a famous young musician, and another youth named Nabajit Chakma Ricky were picked up in the evening of April 14 from Kengelchhari of Manikchhari area when they were travelling from Khagrachhari to Rangamatiby by a CNG auto-rickshaw.
Tintin’s wife Trimita Chakma said they had gone to Khagrachhari to celebrate the Biju festival with his friends.
“We donot know who did this. We contacted the local political parties and the law enforcement agencies both in Dhaka and Manikchhari,” said Trimita, who is a women rights activist and an IT professional.
Wishing to be anonymous, the relatives of Tintin confirmed that they had received a number of calls asking a ransom of $200,000 for the release of the two youth.
Ricky, a friend of Tintin, works at a private company in the capital.
Wishing not to be named, a number of locals from Khagrachhari area told the Dhaka Tribune that Tintin had been last seen with Rupendu Khisa aka Robi Chakma during the Biju festival.
Locals suspect that Rupendu could have been behind the abduction.
Rupendu’s name was mentioned in a report published from Mizoram, India on March 9 last year for his alleged involvement in arms smuggling.
The whereabouts of Rupendu have been unknown since the abduction. His mobile phone is also switched off.
Khagrachhari Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahmanrefused to give any details about the suspected miscreants, saying it would hamper the investigation.
He said the joint forces were dealing with the matter.
“We are aware of the matter and are trying our best to rescue the musician. The abduction took place under Naniarchar police station of Rangamati. But since he was travelling form Khagrachhari, the law enforcers from both Rangamati and Khagrachhari are looking into the matter,” he added.
