A suspected robber has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in the capital’s Badda area early on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Badsha, 28.
Badda police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Jalil said: “Acting on a tip off, police raided Badda post office area when a group of robbers were planning for a robbery.”
“Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on the police,” he said.
In retaliation, police fired back that triggered a “gunfight” between them.
At a stage of the gunfight, Badsha received bullet wound while they others fled the spot.
The OC said Badsha was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 1:30am on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a foreign pistol, eight rounds of bullets and two magazines were recovered from the spot.
