Alleged robber killed in ‘gunfight’

Deceased Humayun Kabir, 32, was a resident of Dekulia village at Kotwali upazila in Barisal, confirmed Rejaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Pirganj police station. Humayun, Yusuf Hawlader, 26, Jahangir Alam, 24, Sabbir Ali, 18, and Milon Mia, 33, were detained by the police from Chowdhury Gopalpur of Mithapukur upazila on Monday afternoon after they hacked jute trader Hafijar Rahman and snatched Tk11 lakh from him. They forcibly picked the injured trader inside a microbus and were fleeing away, said the police. The gunfight took place at Chandigar, while the police were going to nab other accomplices of the detainees. The aides of the alleged robbers opened fire at the police, triggering the gunfight. A case was lodged with the police station in this connection, the OC said.
