Supporters of the Jamaat-e-Islami locked in clashes with law enforcers in separate areas of the port city, Chittagong on Monday morning.
Two policemen were injured and 10 people were held from these areas. However, identities of all could not be ascertained.
The clashes took place during a nationwide shutdown of the Jamaat-e-Islami on top of the on-going general blocakde of the 18-party alliance.
Jamaat and its student affiliate Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a procession in the city's Bakulia area around 9:30am, police said.
They lobbed brickbats and hurled crude bombs at police, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Kotwali circle Assitatnt Commissioner Mirza Saiem Mahmud said.
Police were compelled to fire rubber bullets and lob teargas shells to break the clash, he said. Sub Inspector Anwar and another constable was injured during this time.
Earlier around 9:15am, Jamaat-Shibir supporters stood in an intense stand-off with police, CMP Panchlaish circle Assistant Commissioner Shah Mohammad Abdur Rouf said.
A similar mini-sized clash took place there, according to this police official.
Seven were held after crude bombs were hurled at police in the city's AK Khan intersection area around 7am, Pahartali police Officer-in-Charge Azizur Rahman said.
Three were held from Halishahar area over plotting sabotage, Halishahar police OC Shahjahan Kabir said.
Jamaat called the nationwide shutdown in protest to the death warrant on their Assistant Secretary General Abdul Quader Molla.
