A Dhaka court on Monday placed Sohel Rana on a two-day remand in connection with the murder of his wife, dentist Sarah Roksana Pinu, whose body was recovered from their home in the Jamtala Lane area of Faydabad in Dakshinkhan last week.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid passed the order after the investigation officer sought his remand, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Bakar Siddique of the prosecution division.

Police recovered Pinu's body from her residence on Thursday. Initially, investigators said unidentified miscreants had entered the house by cutting the window grille, killed her and looted household belongings.

However, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) later found a shoe print on the inner balcony beside the section where the grille had been cut. According to investigators, the print matched a pair of shoes recovered from inside the house that belonged to Sohel Rana.

Pinu's sister, Sarah Sultana Poly, filed the murder case on Friday against unidentified persons.

Police later arrested Sohel Rana on suspicion of involvement in the killing. On Saturday, Investigation Officer SI Habibur Rahman of Dakshinkhan Police Station produced him before the court and sought a seven-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Shahadat sent the accused to jail and fixed Monday for the remand hearing.

Sohel Rana works as an assistant manager at a real estate development company in Sector 7 under Uttara West Police Station.

According to the first information report (FIR), Sohel Rana left home at around 11:20am on Thursday after dropping off their daughter, Wami, at school, leaving Pinu alone before heading to his office.

When no one arrived to pick her up after school, Wami returned home in the afternoon and found the main door pulled shut but unlocked.

The FIR says Wami found her mother lying on her back on the bed with a pillow covering her face. After repeatedly calling out and getting no response, she removed the pillow and found her mother cold and not breathing. She then returned to the school and used the principal's mobile phone to inform her father.
