A Dhaka court on Friday ordered police to submit an investigation report by September 1 in a case filed against a man accused of killing his seven-month-old daughter by throwing her to the ground following a domestic dispute in the capital's Turag area.
The first information report (FIR) was placed before the court on Friday. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman accepted the case and directed the investigating officer to submit the probe report by the scheduled date.
SI Helal Uddin of the prosecution division confirmed the matter.
The victim's maternal grandmother, Sharmin Akter, filed the murder case with Turag Police Station on Friday, accusing the child's father, Kabir Islam.
Investigating officer SI Mehedi Hasan Faisal said Kabir has been arrested.
According to the case statement, Kabir Islam married Lima Akter two years ago and the couple had a daughter Rafa Moni Kabita. A rickshaw puller by profession, Kabir had allegedly been addicted to drugs for a long time and frequently assaulted and verbally abused his wife without provocation.
On Thursday, Lima visited her ailing father with the infant. At around 7:00 pm, an argument broke out between the couple over a family matter at their residence in Harun Molla's slum in Balur Math, Uttara.
The complaint alleges that Kabir became enraged, snatched the baby from her grandmother's arms, lifted her above his head and slammed her onto the road.
The critically injured infant was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at around 2:30 pm while undergoing treatment.
