A man identified as “Kailya Palash,” who is known to be a listed criminal, was shot in front of Molla Tower in the capital’s Hatirjheel area on Friday afternoon, police and local sources said.
According to local residents and police, Palash is known in the Rampura–Hatirjheel area for his alleged involvement in criminal activities. He was released from prison following a long period of incarceration after August 5, 2024 and had since been living at his residence near Molla Tower.
Witnesses said unidentified assailants opened fire on him in front of the building, leaving him injured. The motive behind the attack and the identities of those involved could not be confirmed immediately.
Duty Officer Sub-Inspector Al Amin of Hatirjheel Police Station confirmed the incident and said senior police officials rushed to the scene following the shooting. He added that further details would be provided later.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which has created tension in the surrounding area.
