A joint operational team of the DMP’s DB (Detective Branch), CTTC (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime), and Cox's Bazar police has arrested a man named Arif Moinuddin, 50, on charges of fraud by identifying himself as an adviser to the prime minister.

He was arrested from Chakaria in Cox's Bazar on late Sunday.

According to DB sources, Arif Moinuddin created a fake gazette notification claiming that the government had appointed him as an adviser to the prime minister with the rank of state minister on February 17.

It was also mentioned that while holding this position, he would receive salary, allowances, benefits, and incidental facilities equivalent to those of a state minister.

He sent this gazette to various public and private individuals for the purpose of fraud. Additionally, he created and used fake visiting cards identifying himself as the PM’s adviser.

DB sources further revealed that on February 10, Arif Moinuddin created and circulated a fake gazette using the forged logo and pad of the government.

In that gazette, it was mentioned that as a victim of enforced disappearance being rehabilitated, he was declared a specially honored person of the state and granted a one-time incentive, permanent employment, and permanent housing.

Furthermore, identifying himself as the member secretary of the 'Disappearance Welfare Trust' (Goom Kalyan Trust), he embezzled cash from various individuals.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of DB, CTTC, and Cox's Bazar district police conducted an operation on Sunday night and arrested Arif Moinuddin from the Chakaria police station area of Cox's Bazar.

During this time, a false gazette identifying him as the adviser, a visiting card containing a photo with the prime minister, and two mobile phones were recovered from his possession.

Legal action against the arrested individual is under process.
