Man arrested for firing in air, threatening locals in Vatara

Detainee and his cohorts threatened to shoot by displaying firearms

Detectives arrested one of the accused who allegedly fired in the air and threatened people with firearms in the Vatara area on April 1 at Kuril Biswa Road in Dhaka on Thursday night.

The arrestee is Alinur Pavel alias Pavel, 32.

Md Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said an intelligence team picked him up around 10:30pm.

The arrestee and his 10 to 12 cohorts, who were in a car, appeared in front of a house owned by Md Rasheduzzaman Raju, a rival of Pavel, in Joar Sahar Kha Para under Vatara police station around 1:56am on April 1, he said.

The accused abused the victim, fired two blank rounds, kicked the entrance gate and vandalised the house’s CCTV camera, the police official said.

The miscreants also threatened to shoot by displaying firearms when locals tried to come out of their houses, and later left the scene, he said.

Later, Raju filed a case with Vatara police station in this regard.

After scrutinising CCTV footage, the detectives confirmed the involvement of the accused and arrested him. Efforts were underway to arrest the others.
