5 injured during attack near Tanti Bazar Puja mandap, 3 detained

At least five people were injured in an attack during an snatching attempt at the behind of a Puja mandap in the old town's Tanti Bazar area of the capital on Friday night.

With the help of local residents, the police detained three suspected snatchers from the spot.

Media and Public Relations Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the matter.

The detainees are- Akash, 23, Hridoy, 23, and Jibon, 19.

A group of snatchers attempted to snatch a woman's gold chain behind the Puja Mandap no 17.

When the woman screamed, nearby people rushed to help, prompting the snatchers to attack indiscriminately with a knife, leaving five people injured.

Some suffered injuries to their hands, others to their necks and chests.

From the detained ndividuals, a knife, a chain, and a bottle filled with a liquid substance were recovered from the scene.

The injured were sent to Midford Hospital for treatment with police assistance.

Among them, four injured were identified as Jhantu, 45, Md Sagar, 38, Md Khokon, 35, and Britto, 26.

Md Enamul Hasan,  officer in charge (OC) of Kotwali police station, also confirmed the details.

The situation is currently under control. Legal action is being processed against the arrested individuals, according to DMP sources.
