Tonu's family losing faith in police proceedings

Update : 20 Jul 2017, 07:29 PM
Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are still interrogating suspects of the Tonu murder case. 16 months have passed but nothing regarding the case has been solved. Tonu’s father, Yaar Hossain is extremely frustrated and wants to meet the prime minister and seek her help in this matter. None of the criminals involved in Tonu’s murder case have been identified yet. Even though the investigation officer of the case has been changed more than once during the sixteen months, there has been no significant progress made in the case. The questioning and pending DNA and forensic test reports are still stalling the investigation. According to the investigating officer and Senior Assistant Police Super of Comilla CID Jalal Uddin Ahmed, the case will progress once the remaining DNA and forensic reports are received. Tonu’s family has lost all faith in the proceedings. Yaar said: "I am not a wealthy man, I do not know whether I will be able to see Tonu’s murderers brought to justice before I die. Allah will give us justice.” He also said: “For the last seven months, CID has not contacted us. I doubt that it would be of any help if they did. I want to talk to the prime minister directly and ask for justice for my daughter’s murder.” Tonu’s mother, Anwara Begum, said: “My daughter will get justice if Allah wills. Tonu’s father is barely surviving after he had a stroke while grieving her death. He will probably die before he gets to see our daughter’s murderers pay for their crime." Jalal Uddin Ahmed said: “The completion of the investigation will take some time. I have already questioned some army authorities regarding this case, before Eid-ul-Fitr. However, I cannot disclose their names for the sake of the investigation.” “We still have not received a few DNA and forensic reports. We will be able to specifically comment on the case once we get a hold of them,” he added. On the night of March 20, 2016, Tonu’s body was recovered from a jungle near her house in Mainamati Cantonment. Her father, Yaar Hossain, filed a case with Kotwali model police station on the same day. Doctors performed two autopsies on her body. The first report was released on April 4 last year which drew widespread criticism, as it concluded that no sign of murder or rape was found. On May 10, parents of the victim named Bangladesh Army Sergeant Jahid, his wife and soldier Jahid for killing their daughter. They also alleged that the law enforcers were trying to protect the killers. The second autopsy report was released on June 12, 2016 and also sparked controversy. Evidence of sexual intercourse was found on Tonu’s body. The semen of three different men were found on her clothes.
