An intern doctor at the International Medical College Hospital in Tongi has filed a general diary (GD) with the local police station after being assaulted by local miscreants.
Dr Maruf Hossain Nishat was on duty Wednesday afternoon when a resident, Kamrul, arrived with his wife and engaged in an altercation with the doctors on duty.
Dr Nishat intervened to deescalate the situation.
“But Kamrul was so furious that he told us to apologize for engaging in an altercation with him. I went to his office and apologized for the incident," said Dr Nishat.
“They told us to apologize because they are powerful. I complied to avoid future conflicts. But on the way back, they attacked me.”
A group of five or six people, led by one Sajid, attacked him on his way home.
He subsequently filed the GD with Tongi West police station.
Police visited the spot after the GD was filed to investigate the incident.
