The general secretary of the Jagannath University (JnU) branch of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), SM Aktar Hossain, has been accused of leaking medical admission test answers. A leaked screen recording of Facebook Messenger shows him sharing questions and answers through the platform.
According to the screen records, SM Aktar Hossain provided a medical admission test answer sheet to someone through Messenger. Most of the answers on the leaked sheets match the questions from the medical entrance exam for the academic year 2016-17.
In the Messenger screen recording, the person receiving the answer sheet asks Aktar Hossain: "All given, brother?"
Akhtar Hossain replies: "Yes, don't give it to anyone."
The authenticity of the ID was also confirmed in the screen recording, linking the Messenger to Akhtar Hossain's Facebook profile.
Meanwhile, an audio clip of Kankon Mia from Madaripur has come into the hands of the reporter during the investigation of the question leak. In the audio recording, Kankon Mia identifies himself as Aktar Hossain's cousin and guarantees that someone will pass the entrance exam.
Kankon Mia in the recording says: "Here, I am Akhtar's own cousin. Akhtar also said this; you also said that no one's work was undone."
When asked about this, Kankon Mia told the media: "You listen to those who know him. What do I have to know?"
Other leaders of the JnU BCL unit expressed their anger over the negative association of the branch's general secretary. JnU Chhatra League Vice President Mithun Baroi said that SM Aktar Hossain has been involved in forgery and misconduct in admission test question papers of various universities for a long time.
Abdul Raihan, organizing secretary of the JnU Chhatra League, said that the Bangladesh Chhatra League never condones injustice.
“Legal action should be taken for this anti-state act, along with organizational measures for this serious charge, such as the question leak,” he added.
Sheikh Rasel, another organizing secretary of the JnU unit, said: "I hope the Bangladesh Chhatra League will take organizational measures according to the constitution through a fair investigation."
Another organizing secretary, Mofizur Rahman Hamim, said: "If someone uses the name of the Chhatra League to defame the organization, I hope appropriate action will be taken by the central authority."
However, denying his involvement in these activities, SM Aktar Hossain said: "It is a completely false, fabricated, and baseless allegation. It is ill-motivated."
Sheikh Wali Asif Enan, the general secretary of the Central Chhatra League, said that the allegation of question leaking is a serious matter.
"If we find evidence of such involvement against anyone, we will take organizational action,” he said.
When asked about the question leak by the general secretary of the JnU Chhatra League, he also said: 'I am not aware of the matter. If he is involved in any crime, the criminal has no place in the BCL.'"
Saddam Hossain, the president of the Central Chhatra League, said that the organization has a strict stance against any immoral activities.
"If he (SM Aktar Hossain) is involved in unethical and anti-constitutional activities against the interests and ideals of the students, the organization will definitely take action against him," he added.
On January 1, 2022, Ibrahim Foraji and SM Akhtar Hossain were appointed as the president and general secretary of the JnU unit of the Chhatra League. The committee was suspended after six months due to various allegations, including taking control of all campus tenders, withholding checks from contractors, insulting teachers and officials, scandals involving women activists at resorts, and extortion in the Sadarghat area.
Although the committee was later reinstated, the full-fledged committee has not yet commenced after one and a half years.
