The Detective Branch (DB) chief Mohammad Harunor Rashid on Thursday said that many of the education boards used to take a share from the sale of original certificates in exchange for money.

He said that the technical education board's system analyst AKM Shamsuzzaman disclosed this information during primary interrogation.

Harunor Rashid said Shamsuzzaman is not alone; many senior officials of the board are involved in selling these certificates.

He said: “A few days ago, we found a technical education board certificate manufacturing factory by raiding Pirer Bagh in the capital. Technical Education Board system analyst Shamsuzzaman used to sell original certificates to students using government paper.

“Not only that, the information of those certificates was also uploaded on the website of the board. In this way, this fraudulent circle sold more than 5,500 certificates through fraud,” he added.

The DB chief said: “After the arrest, we remanded AKM Shamsuzzaman, System Analyst of the Technical Education Board, for questioning. In the interrogation, he gives startling information.

“Shamsuzzaman told how he used to get the certificate preparation paper from the education board. Even many media journalists knew about his certificate-making factory. Everyone took illegal advantage of him,” the chief added.

Probe committee has been formed several times regarding Shamsuzzaman's illegal sale of certificates. While investigating, the board officials found that many things were coming out. As a result, it is also covered up. The complaint was sent to the Computer Council for investigation due to their lack of understanding. They also fell silent, he continued.

Shamsuzzama and one other were arrested for their alleged involvement in selling fake certificates on April 1.

Shamsuzzaman joined the Bangladesh Technical Education Board as a system analyst in 2009. Now, he has been promoted to senior system analyst.

In 2017, he was suspended on the charge of selling certificates but was reinstated by the High Court.
