Those behind the killing of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Prity will be brought to book regardless of identity, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said.
“None will be spared as the government has asked authorities to take action against those responsible for the killing of Tipu and Prity,” he told reporters at his residence in Dhaka on Friday, reports BSS.
On Thursday night, unknown assailants opened fire at Tipu’s car on the street under the flyover in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area.
A rickshaw passenger, Samia Afran Prity, 22, was also shot and died on the spot. Tipu's driver Munna got shot on his hand in the incident.
Prity, a student of Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College, was on her way to a friend’s home from Malibagh.
A case has been filed in connection with the murder of Tipu. His wife Farhana Islam, the councillor of women’s reserved seat from Motijheel, started the case on Friday.

“Police are preparing to file another case over the murder of the college student,” the minister added.
According to the case details, Tipu found himself in an internal party feud while serving as the general secretary for the Awami League’s Motijheel unit. He was threatened with life over the phone by unknown people some four to five days ago.
Tipu, who lived at the city’s Khilgaon, was a member of Motijheel Ideal School and College’s governing body. He also had a restaurant near the kitchen market in Motijheel.
His chauffeur, Monir Hossain Munna, told reporters at the hospital on Thursday that they were on their way home when some unidentified assailants opened fire on them, wounding both of them.
Police, however, said the attack was carried out by one gunman, who was masked and wearing a helmet, and that he escaped on a motorcycle.
