Update : 07 Aug 2016, 07:28 PM
They were arrested and being interrogated under section 54 on suspicion, said Monirul Islam, chief of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Uni and additional commissioner, at the media centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday. Asked about the newly released pictures of Hasnat and Tahmid, he said: “In this age of technology, many things are possible.” He requested people, who have this type of pictures, to provide the police with the photos. “We have got many pictures, which are being scrutinised,” he added. Monirul also urged reporters to contact with the investigation officer before publishing “so called investigative reports,” because these reports can hamper the investigation. About the development in Gulshan attack case, he said the police obtained lots of information about those involved in the incident. As the investigation was going on, they could not disclose it, he said. After the arrest of some people, things would be clearer, he added. Hasnat and Tahmid were among the 34 lucky people who survived the terror attack at an upscale restaurant in Gulshan diplomatic zone where at least 20 people, mostly foreigners, were killed on July 1. Two police officials were also killed by the attackers. Hasnat is a former teacher at North South University. Tahmid, a Canadian residence permit holder, is currently enrolled as a student at the University of Toronto. They were arrested on August 4 under section 54 and produced before a Dhaka court the next day. The court placed them on an eight-day remand.
