Police on Friday recovered a speech-impaired child’s body from the roof of a house in Duri Angul Lane of Lalbagh area in Dhaka.

The deceased has been identified as Md Hafiz, 11, son of Md Harun Sheikh.

Lalbagh Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Sheikh Firoz Alam said the victim was stabbed multiple times throughout his body, and the throat appears to have been brutally slashed.

The killers made sure the victim died before they fled from the scene, he added.

Hafiz used to hawk in the New Market area and his father is a rickshaw puller by profession.

According to the victim’s brother-in-law Md Bishal, Hafiz was taunted by other teenagers from his area due to his speech impairment. As a result, he became upset quite frequently.

“I have heard the police have detained some teenagers from the area, who are suspected of being the killers,” he added.

After completing all legal proceedings, the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy on Saturday.
