A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) coach in Dinajpur has been sued for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old female cricket player.
The assaulted cricketer's father filed the case with Dinajpur Kotwali police station against the coach, Abu Samad Mithu, under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000 on Saturday, OC Redwanur Rahim told the Dhaka Tribune.
According to the case statement, the father said his daughter had been practising cricket under the supervision of Dinajpur Sports Association executive member and cricket coach, Abdus Samad Mithu, for the last three years.
“My daughter was injured during practice on June 1. Mithu and another female cricketer took her to the adjacent rest room,” he said in the statement.
"Mithu tactfully sent the other cricketer to the field and sexually assaulted my daughter in the name of treatment. He later threatened her not to disclose what had happened," the statement read further.
Earlier on June 1, her father filed a written complaint regarding the assault to Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Mir Khairul Alam.
After receiving the complaint, the deputy commissioner suspended Mithu from duty.
Dinajpur Combined Alliance on the Prevention of Women Repression has been demanding Mithu's dismissal since the complaint was filed.
