8 arrested with counterfeit notes in Dhaka

According to police sources, the fake currency ring used to produce counterfeit notes worth Tk20-30 lakh every day

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday arrested eight members of a fake currency ring from the capital’s West Jurain area.

In the raid, DB also seized Tk3.6 million in fake notes. Around 2.4 million in fake Indian rupees were also seized.

Meanwhile, laptops, printers, cutters, several screens, dice, safety threads, different colored inks, glue, special paper with watermarks, and other materials and soft data or copies were also seized from their possession.

According to police sources, the fake currency ring used to produce counterfeit notes worth Tk20-30 lakh every day.

The leader of the busted gang, Zakir Hossain, has been in this business for years, said police, adding that he was arrested several times before over the same offence.
