JSS MN-Larma member shot dead in Rangamati

BGB and police recovered the body and sent it to Khagrachchari Hospital for autopsy

An activist of Jana Samhati Samity (JSS-MN Larma), an ethnic community based political party, has been shot dead in Rangamati’s Baghaichchari upazila.

Ratan Priyo Dhiman Chakma, 35, son of Boddha Mangal Chakma, was the bodyguard of Naniarchar upazila Chairman Pragati Chakma.

He was sleeping in a shop next to his house, in Pakuijjachhari area under Rupkari union no 34 of the upazila, on Saturday night when a group of miscreants called him and shot him dead.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Khagrachchari Hospital for autopsy.

Josi Chakma, general secretary of the JSS (MN Larma) party, said: "Manimoy Chakma, a terrorist from the JSS (Santu Larma) party, shot and killed our party worker.

“I demand arrest and exemplary punishment for them.”

When contacted, Trideep Chakma Orpe Deep Babu, general secretary of the JSS (Santu Larma) party, denied the allegations and said: “There is no terrorist activity in our party. The incident might have happened due to their factional disputes.”

Baghaichhari police station Officer-in-Charge Ashraf Uddin said: "We have recovered the body and sent it to Khagrachchari Hospital for autopsy. We will take action as soon as anyone files a complaint.”

It is to be noted that in the last 22 years, more than six hundred people have been killed in turf wars among the regional political parties based in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. Besides, numerous abductions and assaults have also taken place during the period.
