A woman has been found dead in a house in Khilkhet, Nikunja.

Rafika Ruma Eti, 26, was found dead in her house on Friday.

Rafika’s husband Jamal Hossain said she committed suicide by hanging herself. But her brother denied it.

Rafika’s body was sent to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) morgue for autopsy.

The reason for the death can only be known after the autopsy report comes back, police said.

Rafika was the daughter of late Rafiqul Islam of Ganakpara village in Shibganj upazila, Bogra.

According to family sources, she lived with her husband Jamal and their son Ehsan Hossain Ijaz, 4, on the ground floor of a two-storey house in Nikunj 2, Jamtala Tanpara.

The couple got married five and a half years ago. She used to work before and her husband works for a private company, they added.

Jamal claimed that he and Rafika had a fight over some silly matter on Thursday night and at one point she wanted to leave the house but he did not let her go.

After that they went to sleep around 2am on Friday. Around 3:30 am, Jamal woke up and saw that Rafika was not in bed, he said. He went to the verandah and saw her hanging from the iron bar with a scarf.

She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Rafika’s older brother, journalist Humayun Kabir Rose, said his sister was mentally strong.

“Her husband claimed she committed suicide. However, she was kneeling on the verandah floor with the scarf hanging. Then the question is: how is it possible?” Humayun said.

They had some family problems. All in all, we cannot believe that she committed suicide. The matter is mysterious. she was killed, the journalist claimed.

Khilkhet police Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdus Samad made the primary report and said that there were no signs of injury on the body. A crescent shaped scar was found on her neck. The cause of death can be confirmed after the autopsy report is ready.

KhilKhet Police Officer-In Charge (OC), Md Borhan Uddin, said they are investigating the matter keeping every possible scenario in mind.
