The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the explosion at Pallabi police station in Dhaka on Wednesday, The United States-based SITE Intelligence Group has said.
SITE Intelligence Group Director Rita Katz tweeted: “#ISIS claims attack in #Bangladesh, targeting a police headquarters in the capital #Dhaka. Marks the group’s 1st attack in the city since Aug, 2019 & comes amid an attack surge as part of the 4th wave of its “Battle of Attrition” campaign, in lead up to #EidalAdha.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam denied the claim, and said that based on preliminary information, it did not appear to be a militant attack. “It’s the work of local criminals," he said.
“However, we will investigate the SITE Intelligence claim,” he added.
