Update : 20 May 2017, 09:40 PM
Police have said that they will take action against anyone found guilty of spreading pictures of Banani rape victims on social media, after the plaintiffs on Friday informed that they would lodge a further case under the ICT Act. The cyber crime unit of Detective Branch will investigate how the pictures were leaked on Facebook, DMP Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten told reporters on Saturday. Several Facebook pages had revealed identities of the victims and published their pictures. Anyone revealing the identity of a victim can face a fine of Tk1 lakh and two years imprisonment under The Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000. The victims told the Dhaka Tribune that they would file a case under the ICT Act as their photos were stolen from their Facebook account and doctored to discredit them.

They filed a case on May 6 with Banani police against Shafat Ahmed, Nayem Ashraf, Shadman Sakif, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and his bodyguard Rahmat Ali.
