CIID to sue Raintree hotel

Update : 14 May 2017, 06:05 PM
Customs Intelligence Investigation Directorate (CIID) has decided to file three separate cases against The Raintree Dhaka hotel, where two university students were reportedly raped in late March. “The cases will be lodged against the hotel authorities over money laundering, smuggling and tax evasion,” CIID Joint Director Shafiur Rahman told reporters on Sunday afternoon after a raid at the hotel. During the raid, CIID officials recovered 10 bottles of liquor from a room of the hotel, where Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) found nothing illegal during its two separate raids last Saturday and Wednesday. The DNC raided the hotel following allegations that Raintree ran an alcohol bar without legal permission. However, Raintree hotel Manager Franck Forget denied the allegation, saying: “We only have a coffee bar.”
