Journalists in Sirajganj form a human chain in front of press club in the town on Tuesday protesting the murder of Abdul Hakim Shimul, a correspondent of daily Samakal Dhaka TribuneShimul, the upazila correspondent of the Daily Samakal, was shot and injured by Miru on February 2, during a clash between the supporters of Shahjadpur Government College unit's Chhatra League President Bijoy Mahmud and those of the mayor’s brothers-- Pintu and Mintu.
Shimul died the following day while being taken to Dhaka.
Afterwards, the victim's wife, Nurunnahar Begum, filed the case with the police station accusing 40 people including 18 identified suspects.
Till date, Miru, Pintu and 12 other accused have been arrested in the case.Police have submitted a charge-sheet against 38 people including local municipality mayor Halimul Haque Miru to a local court in journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul murder case at Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Hasibul Haq of Shahjadpur Cognizance Court accepted the charge-sheet on Tuesday afternoon after Shahjadpur police station's Inspector Md Monirul Islam, also the investigation officer (IO), submitted it.
The IO also submitted the shotgun and 41 bullets belonging to Miru, the prime accused, and a pipe-gun owned by his brother Mintu, three months after the incident.
