Journo Shimul murder key suspect’s wife sues 217

A case was filed on Tuesday over alleged attacks on Shahjadpur municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru in Sirajganj on February 2 that had led to the death of journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul. The wife of Miru, also the prime accused in Shimul murder case, sued 17 identified people and 200 unknown others under the Arms and Explosive Act with a cognizance court, sources confirmed. According to the case dockets, the acting mayor of Shahjadpur municipality, Nasir Uddin, and a rebel Awami League candidate, Abdur Rahim, among the named suspected, and their cohorts attacked Miru’s home. Along with four others, Shimul, upazila correspondent of the Daily Samakal, was shot during the incident. He died the following day, the case statement added. Earlier, with the help of their followers and aides, Miru and his brothers, Mintu and Pintu, clashed with Shahjadpur Government College unit Chhatra League President Bijoy Mahmud Mamun and his  associates over previous enmity. Shimul sustained several bullet injuries when the two groups opened fire on each other, causing him to succumbed to his injuries on January 3 while being taken to Dhaka.
