A total of 80 turtles and 12 gold bars were seized at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) and Dhaka Customs House jointly conducted the drive and arrested MA Khalek and M Tajul Islam on Friday, reports BSS.

“Acting on a tip-off, we jointly arrested a man and his son, and recovered 80 turtles and 12 gold bars weighing almost 3kg,” CIID Director General (DG) Dr Md Shahidul Islam said.

Later they were handed over to Airport police station, and a case was filed in this regard.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devbrata Biswas granted a 10-day remand after police produced the duo before the court.

“Khalek came to Dhaka from Thailand, exiting through the green channel; he passed a packet wrapped with tape to Tajul there. Law enforcement was waiting there from before and arrested both of them,” according to CIID DG Shahidul.

The CIID boss said the estimated cost of the gold bars is Tk1.49 crore.
