Suspected drug traders have been killed in a reported gunfight between two alleged gangs of drug traders in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.

The incident occurred near Harbhanga village of the upazila around 2:45am on Monday.

The police says the deceased—Budu Ali, 30—is a notorious drug trader of the area with several cases filed against him.

Law enforcement claimed to have seized a locally made gun, 1kg of cannabis, and 20 bottles of phensedyl from the spot.

Gangni police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Harendranath Sarkar told the Dhaka Tribune: "A police patrol team was making rounds in the area when they heard gunshots and went to the crime scene along with the locals.

"They found Budu's bullet-riddled body on the spot and sent him to Gangni Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead."

The police claimed that drug traders or criminals used to die in "gunfights" with police, but now they are getting killed by shootings among themselves.
