A newly married woman was brutally murdered by her husband on Tuesday night in Dariapur of Sakhipur upazila in the district.
The deceased was identified as Rumi Akter, daughter of Abdur Rouf Mian.
According to sources, Rumi married Shariful Islam, son of Lutfar Rahman of Sunna village in the upazila, a month ago.
After the marriage , Rumi came to know that Shariful was an addict.
The couple were always quarreling over the matter, said locals.
On the fateful day, they engaged in an altercation and at one stage Shariful strangled her to death.
Sakhipur police station Officer-in-Charge, Amir Hossain, said the body was sent to Tangail General Hospital.
Meanwhile, police arrested Shariful, said the OC.
