Update : 21 Mar 2017, 09:49 AM
Hafez Mawlana Sheikh Shah Alam Noimee of Fatikchhari, who is also known as a Pir or spiritual leader, was hospitalised after receiving stab injuries during Maghrib prayers Monday. The culprit, Salauddin, 22, was caught by the devotees immediately after he stabbed the Mawlana from the back when they were saying prayers at the Ashrafbad Darbar Sharif mosque in Karbala Tila area of Paindong of the upazila. He was later handed over to the police after a good beating. Locals said the attackers were four to five in number, but others managed to flee. Salauddin is the son of Noor Mohammad of Paindong’s Miajee Bari.

Noimee is the founding director of Aminul Uloom Gausia Moyeenia Sunnia Madrasa of Fatikchhari and known in the area as Noimee Hujur. He was first taken to the upazila health complex and later to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. OC Abu Yusuf Mia said that they were interrogating the youth. “Agitation of the madrasa students has also been calmed down,” he added. Pir Farhad Hossain Chowdhury and his adopted daughter Rupali Begum were found dead inside his Khanqah Sharif in Hatrampur area of Bochaganj in Dinajpur on March 11. Police later arrested his former disciple Eshaq Ali, now a Pir himself in Kurigram, for planning the murder. Militants linked to Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) have killed over two dozen Pir and their followers in the last couple of years.
