Police rescued a child from the Bahatta area of Netrakona on Wednesday, abducted for ransom from the Gopalpur upazila of the Tangail district on Sunday.
Ahaduzzaman Mian, superintendent of police in Tangail, said a gang of abductors led by Nahid,20, son of Md Monsur of the Pundura village in the Madhupur upazila kidnapped Al Wasi,3, son of Zakirul Islam of the Shajahanpur village of the Gopalpur upazila on Sunday afternoon.
Later, Nahid demanded Tk40 lakh as ransom from the parents of the child over cell phone.
The mother of Wasi lodged a general diary with the Gopalpur police station in this connection on Sunday evening.
The mother also offered them Tk5 lakh to free her child.
The kidnappers agreed with the proposal and fixed the date and place to take the money.
After informing the police, an uncle of the child met with the kidnappers in Modhupur with the money.
The police team, led by Ameer Khashru, additional superintendent of police in Tangail, arrested two abductors - Likhon and Sumon while they were tried to flee the place with the ransom.
Later, according the confessional statements of Likhon and Sumon, Tangail police rescued Wasi from a house in the Bahatta area of Netrakona.
The police are trying to arrest the other kidnappers, said Ameer Khashru.
A case was filed in this connection, he said.
