Two men arrested over the rape and murders of two five-year-old girls in Demra have given their confessional statements before a Dhaka court.
Golam Mustafa and Md Azizul Bawyani were arrested in Jatrabari and Demra on Tuesday. The two gave their confessional statements before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jasim Uddin recorded the confessional statements of the accused after Shah Alam, sub- inspector of Demra police station and investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court.
The magistrate sent both of the accused to jail after recording their statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Police said the two men lured the minors with lipstick, before killing them.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Wari Division Deputy Commissioner Farid Uddin Ahmed made the statement during a press briefing on Wednesday.
The deputy commissioner said: “Golam and Azizul lured the two victims, who were playing near their house in Demra, with lipstick, and took them to Golam’s house.”
“Then, they attempted to rape the two children, who screamed. Later, the two murdered the children by strangling them with a rag,” he added.
Police have seized the rag, sandals of the victims, lipstick, and the speakers they used to play music during the attack.
The DC further said Azizul fled the scene after the incident, but Golam stayed there till the evening. When Golam’s wife—who works at a garments factory and was absent during the incident—came home, she found her husband acting suspiciously.
When she asked her neighbours about her husband’s behaviour, Golam fled as well.
Later, neighbours found the bodies of the two children under Golam’s bed. After being informed, police went to the site and recovered the bodies.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused said they had been taking yaba before the incident and played loud music so that individuals outside could not hear what was happening indoors. When the two men failed to control the struggling children, they killed them, the deputy commissioner said.
