Abdus Sattar, the headmaster of Gulta Adibashi Girls’ High School in the Talom union of Sirajganj’s Tarash upazila has been accused of sexual harassment by a student of the institution.
However, due to mysterious reasons, the accusation was not recorded until 8:30pm on Saturday.
According to the Tarash police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman, the accusation will be recorded as a case after investigation. The OC also expressed his displeasure when media personnel were taken to the police station to ask him about the reasons behind his deliberation.
Meanwhile, Sattar has had several complaints against him in the past regarding the harassment of helpless poor and indigenous students, despite having two wives of his own.
Locals have often been scandalized by the immoral and lecherous activities of the headmaster, and have long been questioning the reasons behind this; with some saying his influential status retains his position.
According to local sources, the girl lived in a hostel with a fellow student since moving to Sirajganj from Rajshahi two years ago. The headmaster was interested in her from the beginning, with many other students and teachers being upset about this.
In reply to journalists, the girl’s father said: “On Friday, when his wives weren’t home, Sattar lured the girl to his home under the ruse of needing help with cooking. However, when he touched her inappropriately and tried to force himself on her, she ran away and told other students and teachers about the incident.
“Upon learning of the situation, I immediately journeyed here and we filed a case with the Tarash police station that very night. However, the case was not accepted until Saturday evening,” he added.
Meanwhile, the headmaster has gone into hiding, with even his phone switched off.
Tarash OC Mostafizur admitted to receiving the complaint on Friday night, but as the school was closed, it was not possible to record the complaint.
“We will take further action after we conduct a primary investigation on Sunday,” he added.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Sharafat Islam, in charge of the Tarash and Ullapara circle confirmed the matter, saying: “OC Mustafizur has told me about the incident. I will look into the case myself, including the matter of the OC’s deliberation.”
